We speak out against any kind of dictatorship and state oppression. We implement these values through our corporate culture. In doing so, we ensure that our values are respected and adhered to when selecting our suppliers, customers and staff. Those who do not share our values cannot be part of our SCHMUCKWERK family.

Those who love jewellery also bear responsibility.

We attempt to do so by treating our 30 members of staff fairly and being a reliable partner to our suppliers. Hardly a year goes by without us celebrating a long-standing staff anniversary. We have been working with most of our suppliers since our company was founded. We are proud of what we stand for, namely reliability, respectful and cooperative interaction with each other, and high-quality, sustainably manufactured jewellery that is meaningful because its purpose is to bring joy and make you happy.

SUSTAINABILITY

Since our foundation we have only ever used recycled precious metals. This is how we ensure that our jewellery is manufactured in an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly way. As far as possible, we use recyclable and renewable materials. It is important to us to reduce the use of plastic to a minimum.

NATURAL DIAMOND VS SYNTHETIC DIAMOND

For some time now synthetic diamonds have been appearing in shops and in the media. But what is the difference between a natural and a synthetic diamond? Natural diamonds were formed hundreds of millions to 4.5 billion years ago at depths of hundreds of kilometres under enormous pressure and at temperatures of up to 1400°C on our planet. Their formation is rare and unique and no new natural diamonds will ever be formed on our planet again. Synthetic diamonds have the same chemical properties as natural diamonds. They are grown in any quantity in the laboratory. It takes a great deal of energy to apply the pressure and temperature needed for carbon to crystallise into diamond.

Synthetic diamonds are increasingly being offered as an environmentally friendly alternative to natural diamonds. From our point of view this is greenwashing. The production of artificial diamonds involves a high energy input, which is mainly obtained from fossil fuels. The main producers of artificial diamonds are China and India. Both countries are among the largest CO2 emitters due to coal-fired power generation. Determining and comparing the exact carbon footprint of natural and artificial diamonds is extremely difficult because it depends on a great many individual factors. Our research has shown that synthetic diamonds are not a more environmentally friendly alternative to natural diamonds.
